Have you ever thought about your life purpose or next career goal? I am sure all of us have paused in our life and said, what’s next? Maybe you have chatted with a friend or family member and they really didn’t understand your goals or thought you should not be working that hard. If so, that was me. I am first generation Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. degree holder in my family. My family labeled me that I must just love school. I realized at that moment, that I was different and I started seeking people and resources to help me achieve my dreams and goals. Through my journey, I stumbled into a resume writing class where we did a sort of Life Mapping session. We did a holistic exercise where we walked through our resume and recorded themes, lessons we learned, and possibilities for future careers that we had never considered. We then started listing activities we needed to do get us from where we were to where we wanted to be. Every person in that room discovered something new about themselves and went out into the world with a renewed focus on their life journey. Although I cannot remember my instructor’s name from that class in 1992, I need to thank her for my Master’s and my Ph.D. and my career choices from that point forward. I also discovered my life mantra along the way – I will do today what others won’t, so that I can do tomorrow what others can’t – author unknown. This was the genesis of my life journey to help others through a similar experience, which I call Life Mapping.

I am curious if we all have a story like this. I would bet the answer is a resounding ‘yes’! I know that I have worked with hundreds of employees and clients in my work in the last 30 years who have been lost in the abyss of life, felt stuck in their job, stopped striving for the next thing, or have just given up the dream of something different. I started practicing with a five step process to help others dream again. Throughout the process we think through who we are, who we are with others, who we are in context of our work, and who we are in the context of what the world needs from us. In 60 to 90-minutes of focused effort, we can explore a lifetime and create a plan for the future.
Life Mapping has been a part of my personal and professional services for my clients for many years. Our first session together is focused on learning about the person in front of me. Once completed, we work on a plan of action to move them from Point A (currently) to some point in the future, Point B. I become the confidant, accountability partner, coach, and mentor as we move forward.
At the Wi2 Co-Lab, we have a team of professionals who perform this service for their clients. We love meeting new people and learning about their lives. Whether you have a small dream or are a big dreamer, we can help you to achieve your potential in life through this simple, yet complex exercise. Life is a journey and we are here to live it. Let us help you get started. Book your Life Mapping session with one of our many professionals. Enjoy the journey!
